Music setup

Music uses two kinds of bots. BotStacked runs the panel and the commands, and a Restify player joins your voice room to play. The Free plan uses Restify A; paid plans add Restify B and C, so up to three rooms can play at once.

Invite the bots#

  1. Tick Music in your server's dashboard page.
  2. Invite BotStacked and Restify A. On a paid plan, invite Restify B and C as well.

Create the router channel#

BotStacked hands every play request to the Restify players through a private text channel.

  1. Create a text channel, for example #music-router.
  2. Deny it to @everyone. Allow your administrators, BotStacked and the Restify players.
  3. Choose it as the Music router channel in the dashboard, turn Music on and save.

Messages in that channel from anyone other than BotStacked and the players are ignored.

Post the panel#

Run !music (Manage Server) in the channel where members should find the controls. Members join a voice channel, press Play and type a song or paste a link. Posting a new panel retires the old one.

Buttons and commands#

  • Play: plays your song now, replacing the queue.
  • Pause, Skip and Stop: playback control. Stop also clears the queue.
  • Queue: shows what is coming up.

In text, !play adds to the end of the queue. All music commands.

Several rooms at once#

Each player serves one voice room per server. BotStacked uses the player already in your voice room; if none is there, Play and !play start a free one. When every player is busy in other rooms, BotStacked says so instead of taking one away.

What you can play#

YouTube links and song names. Spotify track links are matched to a YouTube recording by title; Spotify audio itself is never used. Playlists load up to 100 tracks, and a server's queue holds up to 500. Spotify playlist import depends on the operator's Spotify access.

Permissions#

  • BotStacked, in the panel channel and the router channel: View Channel, Send Messages, Read Message History, Embed Links.
  • The Restify players: View Channel, Connect and Speak in voice rooms, and View Channel, Send Messages and Read Message History in the router channel.
